The palm baskets are made in Morocco. They are woven in villages near Fes in North Morocco. Palm leaves are from trees that grow wild in the countryside. They are harvested and dried in the sunshine. The palm leaves are woven into strips and then sewn together to make up the baskets. Depending on the size, it takes 3-4 hours to make each basket. They are then taken to seamstresses for the leather handles to be sewn. The leather used is a by product and hand sewn on to the baskets using twine which is pulled through beeswax to make for smooth stitching.
It's not a problem if the basket gets wet but if it does, please allow to dry out thoroughly before re using to avoid the leaves getting mouldy.
